How To Close Your Pond   Let Deb Spencer Guide You

At the September 21st meeting at the Discovery Center, Deb Spencer from Waters Edge in Lawrence, will be our guest speaker.   Her expertise in ponds and water gardening make her a popular speaker anytime but with the time for closing your pond for the winter fast approaching, her words of wisdom and excellent advice are more than welcome.

What shall I do with my plants?  Will my fish be okay during the winter?  How much do I feed them?  How do you treat the water before closing?  Will my lilies survive cold weather?  When do a divide them?  What about my beautiful lotus?  Do I dry it out or put it in the bottom of the pond?  The hyacinths are taking over my pond…what do I do with them when I close?  Everything ha multiplied like crazy this summer!  The cattails are so tall they had to be tied up to keep from blowing over…do I cut them back?  Will horsestail survive if I put it down in the water?  What about my waterfall?  Should the pump and filters be cleaned before closing?

All these questions plus many more will be answered by Deb when she gives us the proper method for closing a pond September 21st.  She will also introduce some new and exciting products that she Susan and have discovered since last fall.  And… as an extra added attraction Deb usually brings an assortment of Goodies to give away to lucky WGS members.  No wonder she is such a popular speaker!!
