Pam O’Brien Of Artstone Gardens

Be sure to go to the November 16th meeting at the Discovery Center to see and hear all the exciting things Pam O’Brien, owner of Artstone Gardens, has to show and tell!  As an example, do you know how to turn an ugly piece of ordinary concrete into a beautiful work of art?  Pam does!  Have you ever wondered how they make those large boulders that look so much like stone, rock or granite?  Pam knows!  And have you ever thought about how you could add dozens of colors to and create unlimited designs using faux stone?  Pam knows!  What about the method of tying any water feature into the faux materials and turning it from just wonderful to art extraordinaire?  Pam knows!  She is going to demonstrate several different stages of her work to visually show the processes she uses.  What a treat for WGS members!

If you have been to Artstone Gardens, you have seen examples of the products Pam creates and sells.  If you have never been, you owe it to yourself and your yard and garden to go!  Everything from planters to bird baths to fountains to exquisite garden accents can be found.  Pam and her employees are always happy to help you find just the right thing you are searching for!

Get a sneak preview of what’s new and how to enhance your pond or garden with the secrets Pam is willing to share with us at the meeting November 16th.  You’ll be glad you did.

Dave Murphy From CFM

At the November 16th meeting at the Discovery Center, we are honored to have Dave Murphy, Executive Director of the Conservation Federation of Missouri, as a guest speaker.  Dave has ten years experience as Senior Regional Director and Regional Field Supervisor for the National Wild Turkey Federation, where he helped conduct fund-raising banquets to assist in the building pf local chapters of the NWTF.  During his service, Missouri increased their membership from 12 local chapters to 72, as well as generating millions of dollars for the natural resources of our state.

A native Missourian, Dave, grew up on his family's farms in Lewis and Clark Counties in Northwest Missouri.  There, he developed a love for the outdoors through hunting, fishing, and trapping, along with a passion for natural history and conservation.  A graduate of Canton High School and the University of Missouri-Columbia, he received his BA in Forestry, Fisheries and Wildlife in 1976 and a MS in 1983.

He has worked for the Missouri Department of Conservation, Columbia Public Schools in the Central Science Office and taught at the Center for Gifted Education.  He was also began service to volunteer groups with active participation in the local chapters of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Trout Unlimited and Optimist International.

As an avid hunter, angler and conservationist, Dave is a gifted speaker whose knowledge of Conservation he is happy to share.  He believes the need for all of us to pull together and offer our very best effort has never been greater …and will only increase in the future.

Plan now to attend the regularly scheduled WGS monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 16th at the Discovery Center and take advantage of this opportunity to hear Dave Murphy speak.
