Christoper Dabner “The Greensman” To Speak At April 19th WGS Meeting

Christopher Dabner, The Greensman, so it has been said, is not only an excellent landscaper but is also a whiz as a  landscape architect. Many of his works are seen during the Parade of Homes and other events that feature the best of the best in new home landscape design.

Besides the fact that Christopher has a vast knowledge of landscaping, the also has a way of telling a tale that keeps his audience spellbound. This will be his first trip to The Water Garden Society as a speaker but chances are it will not be his last. As a rule, once a speaker finds his audience is as receptive as the WGS has proven to be, they are always anxious for a repeat performance.

Mark April 19th on your calendar to come meet and enjoy Christopher Dabner, better known in his profession as “The Greensman”.

Deb Spencer From Water’s Edge To Discuss “The Rites of Spring”

You know spring has sprung when Deb Spencer, renowned water garden expert from Water’s Edge in Lawrence, is scheduled to speak to the WGS membership at the April 19th meeting held at the Discovery Center.

All the usual spring-time questions will be answered so new members will know when to start feeding fish again, and old time members will have their memories jogged about  proper water care and those  age old algae problems that haunt us each spring. She will let us know when it is safe to bring plants wintered inside outdoors again and give us the proper placement of the various plants; some deep, some shallow and those that just need to keep their feet wet.

In addition to all this informative news, Deb will show and tell about re-potting  and dividing lotus, lilies and their friends. As most of us have killed at least one or two plants during our years as pond lovers, learning the tricks of the trade from Deb can prove to be a real money saving event. And believe it or not, Deb learned the hard way that proper dividing and repotting is an absolute necessity! (Ask her or Susan about their first experience with a lotus if you get want a good laugh!)

There is a rumor going around that Cathy Eisenhauer will assist Deb with the  repotting and dividing. Between the two of them, they must know more about lilies and lotus than  most of us combined. Working together they are a great team and if you don’t know how to repot of  divide by the end of the meeting, they are willing to answer questions…and both are noted for giving away many of the plants they bring to the Discovery Center.

It’s been said before but is always worth repeating that Deb should put all her knowledge about repotting and dividing into a book so we could have her experience close at hand, but since she hasn’t done that yet, plan to see and hear  her at the Discovery Center April 19th. According to Deb Spencer, “The Rite of Spring” give you proven methods to a happier, healthier pond. Doors open at 6:00pm. Deb will begin her talk after the business meeting; about 8:00pm. “The Rites of Spring” according To Deb Spencer, are proven facts for a happy, healthy pond.
